East Durham Poker was born out of a love of the game and a desire to bring well-run, accessible poker to Peterlee and the surrounding area.
Officially founded on 2 November 2015 from a once-a-week local pub league, EDP grew steadily before moving into its permanent card room inside Peterlee Central Club in June 2018.
The aim has stayed simple: create the best club-level poker experience we can, with games for different budgets, competitive tables, a friendly room and a place where first-time players can sit down alongside experienced regulars.
Tournaments, cash games, seasonal leagues and special events now all run from the card room. Membership is encouraged, but you do not need to be a member simply to come along and play.
Over the years EDP has continued to grow beyond the regular weekly games. The card room was given a major revamp in 2020, the EDP Team Game was introduced in 2022 and the annual Champion of Champions Final followed in 2024, giving regular players even more to play for throughout the year.
Just as important as the poker itself is the community around it. Many of the players who first walked through the door as strangers are now regular faces, and the room has grown around that mix of competition, friendly rivalry and the social side of the game.
Whether you have played for years or are thinking about trying your first live game, you are welcome at the tables.

Peterlee Central Club originally opened in the early 1950s and was known as Peterlee Working Men’s Club. After closing in 1978, the club was re-established in 1981 with support from Samuel Smiths and reopened under the Peterlee Central Club name.
The club has remained EDP’s permanent home since 2018, giving us the room to build a dedicated poker setup while retaining the atmosphere of a traditional social club.
During the 2020 Covid Closure the building suffered weather damage, including roof damage around the card room. The enforced downtime became an opportunity to give the poker room a fresh look before reopening.

EDP membership is available for players who want the additional member benefits offered throughout the year.
Membership can be arranged through East Durham Poker. Existing players can also manage their account and membership through the EDP App where available.
